Itinerary idea in detail

  • Arrival in Colombo – Transfer to Negombo

Arrive in Colombo where your family adventure begins! Meet your private driver at the airport and transfer to Negombo, a vibrant coastal town just 30 minutes away. Settle into your family-friendly hotel, splash in the pool, or take a walk along the beach to stretch your legs after the flight. Enjoy a relaxed dinner and prepare for the journey ahead.

  • Negombo to Sigiriya via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Today’s highlight is a stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where rescued elephants — many of them orphaned or injured — are cared for in a natural riverside setting. Watch them bathe in the river and feed the baby elephants, a magical moment for kids and adults alike.

In the afternoon, continue to Sigiriya and check into your jungle resort. Relax by the pool or spot monkeys in the treetops as evening falls.

  • Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress & Experience Traditional Village Culture

Start the day with an exciting climb up the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress, an ancient royal palace perched atop a 200-metre-high rock column. Kids will love the spiral staircases, lion-paw entrance, and jaw-dropping views from the summit.

Later, take a step into traditional Sri Lankan life with a village tour: ride in a bullock cart, paddle across a lake, and enjoy a home-cooked lunch made over an open fire. It’s an authentic and fun cultural experience your family won’t forget.

  • Jeep Safari in Minneriya National Park

Today, the thrill of the wild awaits! After a relaxed morning, set off in the afternoon for a private jeep safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park, depending on where the elephants are gathering.

Spotting wild elephants in their natural habitat — bathing, grazing, or herding with babies in tow — is a heart-pounding and awe-inspiring experience. Your guide will help you look for other creatures too, from monkeys and crocodiles to eagles and peacocks.

Return to your lodge in the early evening, full of stories and snapshots from your day on safari.

  • Sigiriya to Kandy via Dambulla Cave Temple

Wave goodbye to the dry plains and travel south into the central hills. On the way, stop to explore the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with centuries-old golden Buddha statues and vivid murals tucked inside towering rock caves.

Arrive in Kandy, a charming city surrounded by hills and set beside a scenic lake. Settle into your hotel and stroll along the lakeside promenade or visit the local markets. In the evening, witness a vibrant traditional dance show with drummers, fire acts, and colourful costumes — always a hit with kids!

  • Explore Kandy & Travel to Nuwara Eliya

Begin with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth, one of Buddhism’s most sacred sites. The ceremony, incense, and chanting create a peaceful, spiritual atmosphere. Then head to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, where kids can run through giant bamboo groves and spot fruit bats hanging from the trees.

After lunch, drive through the misty tea country to reach Nuwara Eliya, a charming town nicknamed “Little England” for its colonial-era cottages and cool climate. On the way, stop at a working tea factory to see how Ceylon tea is made — and taste it fresh from the source.

  • Scenic Train Journey from Nuwara Eliya to Ella

All aboard! This morning, take one of the most iconic rail journeys in the world — the train from Nanu Oya to Ella. Watch as the landscape transforms from rolling tea estates to lush jungle and misty mountains. Kids will love sitting by the open doorways, waving at villagers and feeling the wind rush past.

At Ella station, your private driver will pick you up and take you to your hilltop hotel with sweeping views. Spend the afternoon relaxing or explore the quaint cafés and artisan shops in this laid-back mountain town.

  • Explore Ella – Hike Little Adam’s Peak & Visit Nine Arch Bridge

Start your morning with a family-friendly hike up Little Adam’s Peak — a gentle trail that leads to a spectacular lookout over the valley. It’s perfect for both little legs and grown-ups.

Next, visit the Nine Arch Bridge, one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed spots. Time it right and you can watch a train glide across the bridge from a nearby viewpoint. In the afternoon, choose to relax or visit Ravana Falls, where you can dip your toes in the cool water.

  • Transfer to Yala National Park & Afternoon Safari

Today you’ll descend from the highlands into the dry low country, heading east to Yala National Park, home to the highest density of leopards in the world.

After checking into your safari lodge, set off on an afternoon jeep safari. In addition to leopards, keep an eye out for elephants, spotted deer, sloth bears, crocodiles, and vibrant birdlife. It’s an exhilarating family adventure through untamed wilderness.

End the day under a starry sky, listening to the sounds of the jungle from your camp or lodge.

  • Yala to Mirissa – Tropical Beach Escape

After breakfast, leave the wilderness behind and journey toward the coast. Along the way, pass paddy fields, coconut groves, and sleepy villages as you head to Mirissa or nearby Unawatuna — both known for palm-fringed beaches and laid-back island charm.

Arrive at your beach hotel and settle in. Let the kids loose on the sand, swim in the warm Indian Ocean, or simply relax by the pool with a fruit smoothie in hand. After days of adventure, it’s time to unwind in paradise.

  • Free Day at the Beach

Today is all about taking it easy. Spend the day exactly how you like: build sandcastles, paddle in the shallows, or go for a snorkeling trip to spot coral fish and turtles.

If you’re up for a bit more exploring, visit a local turtle hatchery to see baby turtles before they’re released into the wild — a wonderful, educational stop for kids. Or take a boat ride down a nearby river to see water monitors and birdlife.

In the evening, dine on fresh seafood by the beach and toast your final night in Sri Lanka.

  • Transfer to Colombo Airport

After breakfast, your private driver will transfer you to Colombo Airport for your flight home.

As you leave, take with you unforgettable memories — from elephant safaris and scenic trains to mountain peaks and magical beaches — and the warm smiles of Sri Lanka that greeted you every step of the way.
